Project example: St Mary's High School, Cheshunt

New access roundabout
Traffic Calming Plan

Wormald Burrows Partnership Ltd worked with Hertfordshire County Council and the Diocesan Education Authority in a £33million project to relocate St Mary's Church of England High School in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

Requiring the assessment of five possible sites for suitability, involving; detailed analysis and prediction of changes in all travel modes; the identification of necessary highway improvements; new access requirements; and the redevelopment of the old school site; this resulted in the production of 19 detailed reports on transportation, drainage and services assessments, flood risk analysis, and school travel plans.

Following selection of the preferred site at Bury Green, Cheshunt, Wormald Burrows Partnership Ltd produced detailed traffic analysis, identified the required off-site highway improvement works and agreed a two phase implementation with Hertfordshire Highways. Contract drawings and documentation were produced, the works tendered, and subsequently the contract was supervised on behalf of the client. Wormald Burrows Partnership Ltd provided considerable input onto the drainage strategy for the area and also the technical input into securing outline planning permission for the redevelopment of the existing site.

Working with many authorities and separare disciplines from the inception in 1999 through to the opening of the new school in 2010, the project has resulted in worthwhile safety improvements to the existing highway network and the establishment of sustainable routes to school to encourage less dependance on car travel.
